youth television

youth television
The arrival of satellite and cable technology, combined with broadcasting deregulation, meant that in the 1980s, British broadcasters were searching for new markets to exploit. Youth television was designed to attract 16–25 year-olds, a socio-economic group perceived to have a relatively high disposable income. Youth television programmes such as Network 7, The Tube, Snub TV and The Word contained information on youth culture, pop music and show business gossip, and were distinctive in their use of fast editing, unconventional camera angles and computer graphics. While some have praised youth television for its lively style, it has been criticized for amateurism and for patronising young people.
